Sydney McDowell
Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner
Sydney McDowell (she/her) is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner who works collaboratively with patients ages 13+ providing holistic mental health care and ADHD assessment and treatment. As a Nurse Practitioner she can perform comprehensive assessments, diagnose conditions, order and interpret tests, prescribe medication/treatment, provide specialist referrals, and provide specialty care.
Since becoming a Registered Nurse in 2017, she has primarily worked with vulnerable and marginalized communities providing healthcare through an intersectional trauma-informed lens. She is passionate about mental health care with special interests in trauma, ADHD, and psychotic disorders. She prides herself on utilizing an evidence-based, patient-centered, palliative approach to care while being a strong advocate for her patients.
She received her education and training through the University of Toronto, Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing where she earned a Master of Nursing with a Collaborative Specialization in Women’s Health concurrently with a Nurse Practitioner, Adult Emphasis Certification. Prior to this, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Ottawa graduating Magna Cum Laude. She has completed the Introduction to ADHD for Healthcare Professionals certification with The Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance, courses with Rainbow Health Ontario, the Health Equity and Diversity Certificate Program at the University of Toronto, as well as trainings in Trauma-Informed Care, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, and Motivational Interviewing. She is in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario since her initial registration in 2017.
During her spare time, Sydney enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, playing video games, spending time with her dog, and attempting to grow a vegetable garden.
